AdChoices - Interest-Based Advertising - Eduplore

Official legal, privacy, compliance, and regulatory documentation for Eduplore (eduplore.in) and the Eduplore mobile application on Google Play Store.

Introduction

This page explains how advertising works on Eduplore, what interest-based advertising means, which advertising partners and technologies Eduplore may use, how a user can opt out of interest-based advertising, and what limits apply to advertising shown to children. Eduplore is an Indian learning management system and learning application for students in Class 8, Class 9, and Class 10 in Karnataka, offering video courses, interactive three-dimensional STEM laboratories, quizzes and assessments, progress analytics, and related learning features in Kannada and English, on eduplore.in and on Google Play Store (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eduplore.app).

Eduplore is first a learning service. Advertising, where it is shown at all, is a secondary feature and must not interfere with learning, must not collect or use the personal information of a child for advertising, and must not show content that is unsuitable for students. This page should be read together with the Eduplore Privacy Policy, the Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information page, the Cookie Policy, and the Terms of Use.

This page uses plain language where possible. Where a legal term is used, this page defines it in context. If there is a conflict between a summary in this page and the full text of an applicable law, the law prevails. If there is a conflict between this page and a school agreement that provides stronger protection for a student, the stronger protection applies for that student.

Interest-based advertising is also called personalised advertising, targeted advertising, cross-context behavioural advertising, and tailored advertising. It means advertising that is selected for a person based on that person activity, interests, or profile, rather than advertising that is selected only on the basis of the content being viewed at the time. This page explains the difference, and explains how to opt out of interest-based advertising while still using Eduplore for learning.

This page applies to advertising shown on eduplore.in, in the Eduplore mobile application, in Eduplore video courses where advertising may appear, and in any other Eduplore service that links to this page. It applies to students, parents and guardians, teachers, school administrators, and visitors. Special limits apply to students under the age of 18, as explained in the sections on children below.

1. Purpose of this page

1.1. The purpose of this page is to give every Eduplore user a clear explanation of how advertisements are shown, and a practical way to opt out of interest-based advertising.

1.2. The purpose of this page is also to identify the types of advertising that may appear on Eduplore, the technologies that may be used to show and measure advertisements, and the third parties that may be involved in advertising, where such advertising is used.

1.3. This page is intended to help users understand the choices available under the Digital Advertising Alliance programme in the United States, the YourAdChoices programme, device settings on Android and other devices, app settings in Eduplore, and the rights available under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023 of India, the Information Technology Act 2000, and the Consumer Protection Act 2019.

1.4. This page is intended to be used by a student, by a parent or guardian acting for a student, by a teacher acting within a school role, by a school administrator, and by any other user who wishes to limit interest-based advertising.

1.5. This page does not cover every privacy right. Other rights, including the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information, the right to know, the right to delete, and the right to withdraw consent under Indian law, are described in the Eduplore Privacy Policy and in the Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information page.

1.6. Eduplore will not require a user to create a new account, to pay a fee, or to provide unnecessary personal information in order to opt out of interest-based advertising. An opt-out can be submitted by the methods listed in Section 8 of this page, and can also be exercised through device settings and through industry opt-out tools.

2. Definitions used in this page

2.1. Interest-based advertising means advertising that is shown to a person based on that person personal information, browsing activity, app usage, interests, or inferred preferences, collected across different websites, applications, or services, or over time on a single service.

2.2. Contextual advertising means advertising that is shown based on the content being viewed at the time, for example an advertisement for a science book shown on a science lesson page, without using a profile of the person viewing the page. Contextual advertising does not use cross-context behavioural data.

2.3. Cross-context behavioural advertising means the targeting of advertising to a consumer based on the consumer personal information obtained from the consumer activity across businesses, distinctly branded websites, applications, or services, other than the business, distinctly branded website, application, or service with which the consumer intentionally interacts.

2.4. Advertising identifier means an identifier provided by a device operating system that can be used for advertising, for example the advertising identifier on an Android device. A user can reset this identifier or limit its use in device settings.

2.5. Cookie means a small text file stored on a user device by a website. A cookie may be a session cookie that is deleted when the browser is closed, or a persistent cookie that remains on the device for a period. Cookies are described in detail in the Cookie Policy.

2.6. Software development kit, known as an SDK, means a set of tools provided by a third party that is included in an application to provide a feature, such as advertising or analytics. An SDK may collect device information, usage information, and advertising identifiers.

2.7. Advertising partner means a third party that helps Eduplore show advertisements, measure whether an advertisement was viewed or clicked, or understand advertising effectiveness. An advertising partner may be an advertising network, an advertising exchange, a demand-side platform, or a social media platform that provides advertising services, where such a partner is used.

2.8. Service provider means a person or organisation that processes personal information on behalf of Eduplore under a written contract that limits the use of that information to the purposes stated in the contract.

2.9. Personal information means information that identifies, relates to, describes, is reasonably capable of being associated with, or could reasonably be linked, directly or indirectly, with a particular consumer or household. Under Indian law, the Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023 uses the term personal data for data about an individual who is identifiable by or in relation to such data.

2.10. Child means a person who has not completed the age of 18 years under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023, and a person under the age of 18 under California law, unless the context states a different age threshold. A child under the age of 13 is subject to additional protections under United States law.

2.11. Parent or guardian means a parent, lawful guardian, or other person who has lawful authority to act on behalf of a child, and who can provide evidence of that authority when requested.

2.12. Opt-out of interest-based advertising means a choice by a user to direct Eduplore and its advertising partners not to use the user personal information for interest-based advertising. An opt-out does not necessarily stop all advertisements from being shown, as explained in Section 9.

2.13. Digital Advertising Alliance, known as DAA, means the industry self-regulatory programme in the United States that provides the YourAdChoices icon and opt-out tools for interest-based advertising. The DAA programme is described in Section 8.

2.14. Eduplore services means the Eduplore website at eduplore.in, the Eduplore mobile application, video courses, three-dimensional laboratories, quizzes, assessments, progress analytics, account services, customer support, and any other service that links to this page.

3. How advertising works on Eduplore

3.1. Eduplore may show advertisements in some parts of the service, and may show no advertisements in other parts, depending on the account type, the school agreement, and the user settings. A school account may have advertising disabled under the school agreement. A paid subscription may remove advertisements, where that is stated in the subscription terms. A parent-managed child account will have the children advertising limits in Section 12 applied.

3.2. Where an advertisement is shown, it may be a banner advertisement, a display advertisement on a web page, a short video advertisement before or during a video lesson, an advertisement inside the mobile application, or a sponsored message, where such formats are used. Eduplore will label advertisements clearly so that a student can distinguish an advertisement from learning content.

3.3. An advertisement is selected in one of two main ways. The first way is contextual advertising, where the advertisement is selected on the basis of the content being viewed, the general subject of a lesson, or the general section of the website or app, without using a profile of the viewer. The second way is interest-based advertising, where the advertisement is selected on the basis of the viewer activity, interests, or profile.

3.4. For example, a contextual advertisement on a science lesson page might show a general science learning product, because the page is about science. An interest-based advertisement might show a product related to a website the user visited earlier, or to a search the user made earlier, because an advertising partner has linked that earlier activity to the user device or advertising identifier.

3.5. Eduplore does not allow an advertisement to be shown inside a three-dimensional laboratory in a way that blocks the laboratory controls, covers the laboratory content, or interrupts a student in the middle of an experiment or interaction. Where an advertisement is shown near a laboratory, it will be placed so that the laboratory remains usable.

3.6. Eduplore does not allow an advertisement to be shown during a quiz or assessment in a way that distracts the student, covers a question, or affects the quiz result. Where an advertisement is shown on a quiz page, it will be placed outside the question area.

3.7. Eduplore reviews advertising content for suitability for students. Advertisements must not promote content that is unsuitable for children, must not promote misleading claims, and must not promote products or services that are prohibited for children under Indian law.

3.8. If a user sees an advertisement that appears unsuitable, misleading, or offensive, the user should report it to Eduplore support using the contact details in Section 16, providing a description of the advertisement and, where possible, a screenshot. Eduplore will review the report and will take steps to block the advertisement where appropriate.

4. Interest-based advertising explained

4.1. Interest-based advertising uses information about a person activity to select advertisements that are more likely to be relevant to that person. The information may include pages visited, videos watched, searches made, applications used, general location, device type, and inferred interests, where such information is collected.

4.2. Interest-based advertising is provided by advertising partners that collect information across different websites and applications, and that use that information to build a profile or segment for advertising. For example, an advertising partner may note that a device has visited several websites about a topic, and may then show advertisements related to that topic on another website or application.

4.3. Interest-based advertising can be useful to an advertiser, because it allows the advertiser to show an advertisement to a person who may be interested in the product. It can also be useful to a user who prefers to see advertisements related to their interests rather than unrelated advertisements. However, some users prefer not to have their activity used for advertising, and this page explains how to opt out.

4.4. Interest-based advertising is different from contextual advertising, which does not use a profile. A user who opts out of interest-based advertising may still see contextual advertisements, as explained in Section 9.

4.5. Interest-based advertising is different from the use of personal information to provide the learning service itself. For example, Eduplore uses quiz results to recommend a lesson, and uses progress analytics to show a student their own progress. That use is for learning, not for advertising, and is not interest-based advertising.

4.6. Eduplore does not use the learning records of a student, including quiz scores, assessment results, progress analytics, video course progress, and three-dimensional laboratory usage, for interest-based advertising. Learning records are not shared with advertising partners for the purpose of targeting advertisements to a student.

4.7. Eduplore does not use the personal information of a child for interest-based advertising. The children advertising limits in Section 12 apply to every student under the age of 18.

4.8. A user who opts out of interest-based advertising will still be able to use Eduplore video courses, three-dimensional laboratories, quizzes, and progress analytics in the ordinary way. Opting out does not reduce access to learning content.

5. What information may be used for interest-based advertising

5.1. Where interest-based advertising is used, the information that may be used includes identifiers, device information, and activity information. This section describes each category, and explains what is not used for advertising.

5.2. Identifiers. This category includes an advertising identifier, a device identifier, an Internet Protocol address, a cookie identifier, and an online identifier. These identifiers allow an advertising partner to recognise a device or browser, to limit how often the same advertisement is shown, and to measure whether an advertisement was viewed or clicked.

5.3. Device information. This category includes the device type, operating system, operating system version, browser type, browser version, screen size, language setting, and network information, where such information is collected. Device information is used to show an advertisement in the correct format for the device, and to measure advertising effectiveness.

5.4. Activity information. This category includes pages visited on eduplore.in, videos watched, sections of the app used, searches made within Eduplore, advertisements viewed or clicked, and the time and date of those activities, where such information is collected. Activity information is used to infer general interests, for example an interest in a subject, where that inference is made for advertising.

5.5. Approximate location. This category includes a general region derived from an Internet Protocol address, such as a city or state, where such information is collected. Precise geolocation, such as a street address or exact coordinates, is not used for interest-based advertising without consent where consent is required.

5.6. Inferred interests. This category includes interests inferred from the information above, for example an interest in a subject area, a learning topic, or a general category of product, where such an inference is made by an advertising partner for advertising purposes.

5.7. Information that is not used for interest-based advertising includes the name of a student, the email address of a student, the phone number of a student, the school name of a student, the class and section of a student, quiz scores, assessment results, progress analytics, video course completion records, and three-dimensional laboratory usage records. Those records are learning records, and are not shared with advertising partners for targeting.

5.8. Information that is not used for interest-based advertising includes sensitive personal information, such as health information, government identifiers, complete account log-in details, and biometric information. Eduplore does not sell or share sensitive personal information for advertising.

5.9. Information that is not used for interest-based advertising includes the contents of a private message sent to Eduplore support, the contents of a student answer to a quiz question, and the contents of any file uploaded by a user for a learning activity, except where the user has directed Eduplore to share that content.

5.10. Eduplore limits the information shared with advertising partners to what is needed for the advertising purpose, and requires advertising partners to protect that information and to comply with applicable law, as described in Section 6.

6. Advertising partners and software development kits

6.1. Eduplore may use advertising partners and software development kits to show advertisements, to measure advertising, and to understand advertising effectiveness. The partners and SDKs in use at the time of publication are listed in the Contact Information section as [List of advertising partners and SDKs in use - to be filled by Venkatesh]. Eduplore will update that list when a partner or SDK is added or removed, and will publish the updated list in the Privacy Policy and in this page.

6.2. An advertising partner may be an advertising network that supplies advertisements, an advertising exchange that matches advertisers with available advertising space, a demand-side platform that helps advertisers buy advertising space, an advertising measurement provider that measures whether an advertisement was viewed or clicked, or a social media platform that provides advertising services, where such a partner is used.

6.3. Google Ads, where used. Google provides advertising services that may be used to show advertisements on websites and in applications, and to measure advertising effectiveness. If Google Ads is used on Eduplore, Google may collect advertising identifiers, device information, and activity information through cookies and SDKs, in accordance with the Google privacy policy and with the Eduplore Privacy Policy. A user can opt out of personalised advertising from Google through Google advertising settings and through the methods in Section 8. Eduplore does not control the Google privacy policy, and a user should read that policy for details of how Google uses information. This paragraph describes Google Ads only if it is used; if Google Ads is not used, this paragraph does not apply.

6.4. Meta advertising, where used. Meta provides advertising services on its platforms and through its advertising network. If Meta advertising services are used on Eduplore, Meta may collect advertising identifiers, device information, and activity information through cookies and SDKs, in accordance with the Meta privacy policy and with the Eduplore Privacy Policy. A user can opt out of personalised advertising from Meta through Meta advertising settings and through the methods in Section 8. Eduplore does not control the Meta privacy policy, and a user should read that policy for details of how Meta uses information. This paragraph describes Meta advertising only if it is used; if Meta advertising is not used, this paragraph does not apply.

6.5. Other advertising partners, where used. Eduplore may use other advertising partners that provide similar services to those described in this section. Each partner will be listed in the Contact Information section when it is added, and a user can opt out through the methods in Section 8. Eduplore will not add an advertising partner that targets children for interest-based advertising, and will not add a partner that uses the personal information of a child for advertising.

6.6. Software development kits. An SDK included in the Eduplore app may collect device information, advertising identifiers, and usage information, and may send that information to the SDK provider. The SDK provider may use that information to show advertisements, to measure advertising, or to provide analytics, in accordance with its own privacy policy and with the Eduplore Privacy Policy. A user who opts out of interest-based advertising through the methods in Section 8 will have the opt-out applied to SDK-based advertising where technically feasible.

6.7. Eduplore requires its advertising partners and SDK providers to comply with applicable law, to protect personal information, to not use the personal information of a child for advertising, to not sell or share personal information for their own purposes except as permitted by contract and by law, and to honour an opt-out where the partner receives an opt-out signal or instruction from Eduplore.

6.8. Eduplore does not allow an advertising partner to collect information directly from a child through Eduplore for the purpose of interest-based advertising. If an advertising partner collects information from a device used by a child, that collection is subject to the children advertising limits in Section 12, and to the opt-out right in this page.

6.9. A user who wants a current list of advertising partners and SDKs in use may request the list through the contact details in Section 16. Eduplore will provide the list that is current at the time of the request.

7. Cookies, identifiers, and tracking technologies for advertising

7.1. Eduplore uses cookies and similar technologies on eduplore.in, and uses identifiers and SDKs in the Eduplore app, for advertising where advertising is used. This section explains how those technologies work for advertising, and how a user can control them.

7.2. Advertising cookies. An advertising cookie is a cookie set by Eduplore or by an advertising partner that is used to show advertisements, to limit how often the same advertisement is shown, to measure whether an advertisement was viewed or clicked, and to understand advertising effectiveness. An advertising cookie may be a first-party cookie set by eduplore.in, or a third-party cookie set by an advertising partner.

7.3. Analytics cookies. An analytics cookie is a cookie that is used to understand how users interact with Eduplore, which pages are most visited, which video courses are most watched, and where users encounter difficulties. Analytics cookies help Eduplore improve the learning service. Analytics information that is shared with an advertising partner for advertising purposes is subject to the opt-out right in this page.

7.4. Strictly necessary cookies. A strictly necessary cookie is a cookie that is needed for the website to function, for example to keep a user signed in, to remember a language choice, or to keep a shopping or enrolment session active. Strictly necessary cookies are not used for interest-based advertising, and cannot be disabled without affecting the function of the website.

7.5. Preference cookies. A preference cookie remembers a user choice, for example a language preference, a display preference, or a consent choice. Preference cookies are not used for interest-based advertising.

7.6. Advertising identifiers on Android. An Android device provides an advertising identifier that applications can use for advertising. A user can reset the advertising identifier and can delete the advertising identifier in Android settings, as described in Section 8. Deleting the advertising identifier will stop applications from using that identifier for advertising, and will require applications to use a new identifier if a new one is created.

7.7. Advertising identifiers on other devices. A device other than Android, for example a device that uses a different operating system, may provide a similar advertising identifier or a limit-ad-tracking setting. A user should check the device privacy settings for the relevant option, as described in Section 8.

7.8. Pixel tags and web beacons. A pixel tag or web beacon is a small image or piece of code on a web page or in an email that can collect information about whether a page was viewed or an email was opened. Where a pixel tag is used for advertising measurement, it may collect device information and activity information, and is subject to the opt-out right in this page.

7.9. Local storage and similar technologies. Eduplore may use local storage and similar technologies to store preferences and to improve performance. Local storage is not used for interest-based advertising unless that use is disclosed in the Cookie Policy and in this page.

7.10. A user can manage cookies through browser settings, can block third-party cookies, can delete cookies, and can use a consent management tool on eduplore.in where such a tool is provided, to manage cookie preferences. A user can also manage advertising identifiers through device settings, as described in Section 8. Managing cookies and identifiers will affect interest-based advertising, but may also affect the function of the website or app.

7.11. Eduplore will honour a Global Privacy Control signal where technically feasible, as described in Section 8. A Global Privacy Control signal is a browser or device setting that communicates a user preference to opt out of sale and sharing of personal information, including for interest-based advertising.

8. How to opt out of interest-based advertising

8.1. A user may opt out of interest-based advertising by any of the following methods. Eduplore will accept an opt-out submitted by any method listed here, and will not require the user to use a particular method. A user may use more than one method, for example an Eduplore app setting and a device setting, to ensure that the opt-out is applied across browsers and devices.

8.2. Method one, Eduplore app setting. Open the Eduplore app, go to Profile or Settings, then Privacy, then Advertising, then Interest-Based Advertising, and turn off interest-based advertising. The app will confirm the change on screen. This method is available to a user who is signed in to the app. A parent or guardian who manages a child account should use the parent account to change the setting for the child account.

8.3. Method two, Eduplore website setting. Sign in to eduplore.in, go to Account Settings or Privacy Settings, then Advertising, and turn off interest-based advertising. Confirm the choice. The website will show a confirmation message when the opt-out has been recorded.

8.4. Method three, Do Not Sell or Share request. Submit a Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information request through the methods described in the Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information page. That request will opt the user out of the sale and sharing of personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising, which is a form of interest-based advertising. The Do Not Sell page is linked from the Privacy Policy and from this page.

8.5. Method four, email or web form. Send an email to [Advertising opt-out email address - to be filled by Venkatesh] with the subject line Opt Out of Interest-Based Advertising, stating that you wish to opt out, and providing the name on the account and the email address or phone number associated with the account. Or submit the web form at [Advertising opt-out web form link - to be filled by Venkatesh]. Do not include passwords or payment details in the email or form.

8.6. Method five, Digital Advertising Alliance opt-out. Visit the DAA opt-out tool for the relevant region, and select the companies from which you wish to opt out. In the United States, the DAA provides a web choices tool and an AppChoices tool for mobile applications. The AppChoices tool allows a user to opt out of interest-based advertising in applications on a device. A user should follow the instructions on the DAA website to install and use the tool, and should select Eduplore advertising partners where they are listed.

8.7. Method six, YourAdChoices. Look for the YourAdChoices icon, which is a small blue icon with a triangle, on an advertisement shown on Eduplore or on another website or application. Clicking or tapping the icon will show information about the advertisement, the company that provided it, and a link to opt out of interest-based advertising from that company. A user can use the YourAdChoices icon to learn why an advertisement was shown and to opt out.

8.8. Method seven, device settings on Android. On an Android device, open Settings, then Privacy, then Ads, then Delete advertising ID, or turn on Opt out of Ads Personalisation, depending on the Android version. The exact steps depend on the device and the Android version, and a user should check the device help pages for the current steps. Deleting the advertising ID will stop applications from using that identifier for advertising.

8.9. Method eight, device settings on other devices. On a device that is not Android, open the device privacy or advertising settings, and turn on Limit Ad Tracking or a similar setting, or reset the advertising identifier. The exact steps depend on the device and the operating system, and a user should check the device help pages for the current steps.

8.10. Method nine, browser settings. In a web browser, open the privacy or advertising settings, and turn on the setting to send a Do Not Track signal or a Global Privacy Control signal, where the browser provides that setting. A user can also block third-party cookies in browser settings, and can delete cookies. Browser settings apply to that browser only, and a user who uses more than one browser should change the setting in each browser.

8.11. Method ten, Google advertising settings, where Google Ads is used. Sign in to the Google account, open advertising settings, and turn off personalised advertising. That setting will apply to Google advertising across websites and applications where Google provides the advertisement. A user should follow the instructions on the Google advertising settings page for the current steps.

8.12. Method eleven, Meta advertising settings, where Meta advertising is used. Open the Meta account settings, then advertising settings, and turn off personalised advertising or advertising based on activity. That setting will apply to Meta advertising. A user should follow the instructions on the Meta advertising settings page for the current steps.

8.13. Method twelve, customer support. Contact Eduplore customer support through the contact details in Section 16, and state that you wish to opt out of interest-based advertising. Support will record the request and will ask for the information needed for verification. Support will not ask for a password.

8.14. An opt-out submitted through an Eduplore setting will apply to the Eduplore account. An opt-out submitted through a device setting, a browser setting, or an industry tool will apply to that device, browser, or tool, and may not automatically apply to another device or browser. A user who uses more than one device or browser should apply the opt-out on each device or browser, or submit an account-level opt-out through Eduplore, so that the opt-out is applied consistently.

8.15. Eduplore will confirm an account-level opt-out where contact details are provided, and will apply the opt-out promptly and within the time limit required by applicable law. If Eduplore cannot verify the request, Eduplore will explain what additional information is needed, as described in the Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information page.

9. What happens after you opt out of interest-based advertising

9.1. After Eduplore applies an opt-out of interest-based advertising, Eduplore will stop using the user personal information for interest-based advertising, and will direct its advertising partners to stop using that information for interest-based advertising, where Eduplore is required to do so and where it is technically feasible.

9.2. An opt-out does not necessarily stop all advertisements from being shown. A user who opts out may still see advertisements, but those advertisements will be contextual advertisements, or general advertisements that are not based on the user profile, rather than interest-based advertisements.

9.3. For example, a user who opts out may still see an advertisement for a general learning product on a science lesson page, because that advertisement is selected on the basis of the page content, not on the basis of the user profile. The user will not see an advertisement selected because the user visited another website earlier, or because an advertising partner has inferred an interest from earlier activity.

9.4. An opt-out does not delete personal information that Eduplore has already collected, and does not stop Eduplore from using personal information to provide the learning service. A user who wishes to delete personal information should submit a deletion request under the Privacy Policy.

9.5. An opt-out does not stop Eduplore from showing advertisements that are part of a school agreement, where the school has agreed to a specific advertising arrangement, unless the school agreement provides otherwise. A parent or school administrator who has a question about advertising in a school account should contact Eduplore support.

9.6. An opt-out does not stop Eduplore from measuring whether an advertisement was viewed or clicked in an aggregated form that cannot reasonably be used to identify a person. Aggregated measurement helps Eduplore understand whether advertisements are working, without building a profile of an individual user.

9.7. An opt-out will remain in effect until the user withdraws it by opting back in through a clear affirmative action. Eduplore will not treat a general use of the service as an opt-in, and will not ask a user to renew an opt-out at regular intervals.

9.8. If a user creates a new account, uses a new device, or uses a new browser, the opt-out may not automatically apply to the new account, device, or browser. The user should submit a new opt-out for the new account, device, or browser, or contact support to link the accounts, so that the opt-out can be applied correctly.

9.9. If a user clears cookies, resets an advertising identifier, or reinstalls the Eduplore app, an opt-out that was stored in a cookie or on the device may be lost, and the user may need to opt out again. An account-level opt-out submitted through Eduplore will not be lost when cookies are cleared, because it is stored in the account record.

9.10. Eduplore cannot control what an advertising partner does after it receives personal information, and the advertising partner is responsible for complying with its own legal obligations and for honouring an opt-out where it receives one. Eduplore will notify advertising partners of an opt-out where required by law, and will take steps to address a partner that does not honour an opt-out.

10. Advertising in video courses and three-dimensional laboratories

10.1. Video courses on Eduplore include recorded lessons in Kannada and English. Where an advertisement is shown in connection with a video course, it may appear before the lesson starts, during a natural break in the lesson, or after the lesson ends, where such placement is used. Eduplore will not place an advertisement in the middle of an explanation in a way that breaks the learning flow, and will not place an advertisement that covers the lesson content.

10.2. A video advertisement will be labelled clearly, will state that it is an advertisement, and will provide a way to skip the advertisement after a short period, where skipping is supported. A student should be able to return to the lesson easily after the advertisement ends.

10.3. Three-dimensional laboratories on Eduplore include interactive modules such as the Human Body laboratory, the Heart and ECG laboratory, the Cell laboratory, the Periodic Table laboratory, the Molecular laboratory, the Chemistry laboratory, the Universe laboratory, the Solar System laboratory, the Space laboratory, the Physics laboratory, and the Vector Calculus laboratory, where those laboratories are available. Eduplore does not show interest-based advertising inside a three-dimensional laboratory, and does not use laboratory interactions for advertising.

10.4. Where an advertisement is shown near a three-dimensional laboratory, it will be placed outside the laboratory interaction area, so that the student can rotate, explode, isolate, and inspect laboratory parts without interference from the advertisement.

10.5. Quizzes and assessments on Eduplore do not contain interest-based advertising inside the question area. Where an advertisement is shown on a quiz page, it will be placed outside the question area, so that the student can read the question, select an answer, and submit the quiz without distraction.

10.6. Progress analytics dashboards for students, parents, and teachers do not contain interest-based advertising. A dashboard shows learning progress, quiz scores, and recommendations for learning, and does not show advertisements based on the user profile.

10.7. Eduplore does not use a student video viewing history, laboratory usage history, or quiz history to select an advertisement for that student. A student who watches a video about the human heart will not be shown an advertisement because of that viewing history, unless the advertisement is a contextual advertisement based on the lesson page itself.

11. Advertising, accounts, purchases, and subscriptions

11.1. Eduplore accounts include student accounts, parent accounts, teacher accounts, and school administrator accounts. Advertising settings are managed at the account level, and a parent account can manage the advertising setting for a linked child account.

11.2. A student account is normally created by a parent, guardian, or school. The student should not change the advertising setting without the parent or guardian permission, where the account is managed by the parent or guardian.

11.3. A parent account is linked to one or more student accounts, and allows the parent to view progress analytics, to manage consent and privacy settings for the child, and to manage subscriptions and purchases for the child, including any subscription that removes advertisements where such a subscription is offered.

11.4. A teacher account is linked to classes and students assigned to that teacher, and allows the teacher to view progress analytics for those students. A teacher cannot change the advertising setting for a student account unless the teacher is authorised by the school or by the parent to do so.

11.5. In-app purchases and subscriptions are processed through Google Play Store where the purchase is made in the Eduplore app, or through a payment service provider where the purchase is made on eduplore.in. Eduplore does not store full payment card details. Purchase and subscription records are kept for accounting, tax, and customer support purposes, and are not used for interest-based advertising.

11.6. A subscription that removes advertisements, where such a subscription is offered, will remove advertisements as stated in the subscription terms. Opting out of interest-based advertising does not automatically remove all advertisements, and does not automatically start a subscription. A user who wishes to remove advertisements should check the subscription terms in the app or on eduplore.in.

11.7. An opt-out of interest-based advertising does not cancel a subscription and does not refund a purchase. A user who wishes to cancel a subscription should use the subscription management feature in Google Play Store or on eduplore.in, or contact support.

12. Children advertising limits

12.1. Eduplore applies strict limits to advertising shown to children. A child is a person who has not completed the age of 18 years under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023. Additional protections apply to a child under the age of 13 under United States law.

12.2. Eduplore does not show interest-based advertising to a child. Eduplore does not use the personal information of a child for interest-based advertising, does not profile a child for advertising, and does not allow a third-party advertising partner to track a child across other websites or applications through Eduplore for advertising purposes.

12.3. Eduplore does not sell or share the personal information of a child for advertising. Eduplore does not sell or share the personal information of a student for cross-context behavioural advertising.

12.4. Where any advertisement is shown to a child, it will be a contextual advertisement or a general advertisement that is suitable for children, and will not be based on the child activity, interests, or profile. The advertisement will be labelled clearly, and will not contain content that is unsuitable for children.

12.5. Eduplore does not show advertisements to a child that promote products or services that are prohibited for children, that promote misleading claims, that encourage a child to make a purchase without a parent permission, or that exploit a child lack of experience or understanding.

12.6. Eduplore does not allow an advertising partner to collect personal information directly from a child through Eduplore for the purpose of advertising. If an advertising partner collects information from a device used by a child, Eduplore will take steps to stop that collection where it learns of it, and will inform the parent or guardian where required by law.

12.7. Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023, Eduplore will not track or monitor the behaviour of a child, and will not target advertising at a child. Eduplore will not process the personal data of a child in a way that is likely to cause any detrimental effect on the well-being of the child.

12.8. Under United States law, including the Children Online Privacy Protection Act, Eduplore will obtain verifiable parental consent before collecting personal information from a child under the age of 13 for a purpose that requires such consent, and will provide a method for a parent to review, correct, and delete the child personal information, as described in the Privacy Policy.

12.9. A parent or guardian may opt out of any advertising for a child account, may request that no advertisements be shown to the child where that option is available, and may contact Eduplore support to discuss advertising settings for the child. A parent should review the advertising settings in the parent account, and should check the device settings for the child device.

12.10. A school that enrols children in Eduplore may request that advertising be disabled for its students under the school agreement. Eduplore will honour a school request to disable advertising for students covered by that agreement, where the agreement provides for that option.

12.11. A teacher who is concerned about an advertisement shown to a student should report it to the school administrator and to Eduplore support, providing a description of the advertisement and, where possible, a screenshot.

12.12. If Eduplore learns that interest-based advertising has been shown to a child, Eduplore will stop the advertising promptly, will inform the parent or guardian where required by law, and will take steps to prevent a recurrence.

14. Indian law: Information Technology Act 2000 and Consumer Protection Act 2019

14.1. The Information Technology Act 2000, together with the rules made under that Act, including the Information Technology (Reasonable Security Practices and Procedures and Sensitive Personal Data or Information) Rules 2011, sets requirements for the collection, use, disclosure, and protection of sensitive personal data or information in India. Eduplore will not disclose sensitive personal data to an advertising partner without consent where consent is required, and will maintain reasonable security practices to protect personal information, as described in Section 15.

14.2. The Consumer Protection Act 2019 protects consumers in India from unfair trade practices, misleading advertisements, and deficient services. Eduplore will not show a misleading advertisement, will not make a false or misleading statement about advertising practices, and will provide clear information about how advertising works and how a user can opt out.

14.3. Under the Consumer Protection Act 2019, an advertisement must not be false, misleading, or deceptive, must not contain a false claim about a product or service, and must not promote a product or service in a way that is unfair to a consumer. Eduplore will review advertisements for compliance with those requirements, and will remove an advertisement that is found to be misleading.

14.4. A consumer who has a complaint about an advertisement shown on Eduplore, or about Eduplore advertising practices, may contact Eduplore support using the contact details in Section 16. If the complaint is not resolved, the consumer may raise the complaint through the consumer dispute redressal mechanisms under the Consumer Protection Act 2019, including the Central Consumer Protection Authority and the consumer commissions, in accordance with the Act.

14.5. The Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules 2020, where they apply to Eduplore as an e-commerce entity, require clear disclosure of information about the seller, the goods and services offered, and the grievance redressal mechanism. Eduplore will comply with those rules where they apply, and will provide the grievance officer details in the Contact Information section.

15. Retention, security, and third-party services for advertising

15.1. Eduplore retains personal information used for advertising only for as long as it is needed for the advertising purpose, including to show an advertisement, to measure whether an advertisement was viewed or clicked, to limit how often the same advertisement is shown, and to comply with legal obligations. The retention periods are described in the Privacy Policy.

15.2. Advertising identifiers, cookie identifiers, and activity information used for advertising are retained for a limited period, and are deleted or de-identified after that period, in accordance with the retention policy. A user who opts out of interest-based advertising may also request deletion of personal information used for advertising, through a deletion request under the Privacy Policy, subject to verification and to the exceptions permitted by law.

15.3. Eduplore maintains reasonable security practices and procedures to protect personal information from unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction. Those practices include access controls that limit access to personal information to staff who need it to perform their duties, encryption in transit and at rest where appropriate, secure storage of account credentials, regular review of access permissions, and training for staff who handle personal information.

15.4. Eduplore requires its advertising partners, analytics providers, and other service providers to maintain appropriate security measures and to protect personal information in accordance with their contracts and with applicable law. If a service provider breaches its contract, Eduplore will take steps to address the breach and to protect users.

15.5. No security system is completely secure, and Eduplore cannot guarantee that personal information will never be subject to unauthorised access. If Eduplore learns of a data breach that affects personal information used for advertising, Eduplore will inform affected users and the relevant authorities in accordance with applicable law, including the Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023 and the Information Technology Act 2000, and will take steps to contain the breach and to prevent a recurrence.

15.6. Eduplore uses third-party service providers to operate the service, including cloud hosting providers, video hosting and delivery providers, payment processors, customer support providers, email and messaging providers, and analytics providers. Those providers process personal information on behalf of Eduplore under written contracts that limit their use of the information. Analytics providers that act as service providers provide reports to Eduplore only, and do not use the information for their own advertising purposes.

15.7. Eduplore will update the list of advertising partners and service providers when it adds a new partner or provider, and will publish the updated list in the Privacy Policy. A user may request a current list through the contact details in Section 16.

15.8. A user can help protect their account by choosing a strong password, by not sharing the password with another person, by signing out from shared devices, and by contacting support promptly if the user believes that the account has been compromised.

18. Frequently asked questions about AdChoices on Eduplore

18.1. Will I still see advertisements if I opt out of interest-based advertising. Yes, you may still see advertisements, but they will be contextual advertisements or general advertisements that are not based on your profile, rather than interest-based advertisements. Opting out stops the use of your personal information for interest-based advertising, and does not necessarily remove all advertisements.

18.2. Will opting out stop Eduplore from using my learning progress to recommend lessons. No, opting out of interest-based advertising does not stop Eduplore from using quiz results and progress analytics to recommend lessons inside Eduplore. That use is for learning, not for advertising, and is described in the Privacy Policy.

18.3. Does Eduplore show interest-based advertising to children. No, Eduplore does not show interest-based advertising to a child, does not use the personal information of a child for interest-based advertising, and does not allow an advertising partner to track a child for advertising through Eduplore. The limits are described in Section 12.

18.4. How do I opt out on all my devices. Use an account-level opt-out through the Eduplore app or website setting, and also apply the opt-out in device settings and browser settings on each device and browser you use. An account-level opt-out is stored in the account record, and a device-level opt-out applies to that device only.

18.5. How do I report an unsuitable advertisement. Contact Eduplore support using the contact details in Section 16, provide a description of the advertisement and, where possible, a screenshot, and state the date and time you saw the advertisement. Eduplore will review the report and will take steps to block the advertisement where appropriate.

18.6. What is the YourAdChoices icon. The YourAdChoices icon is a small blue icon with a triangle that appears on an interest-based advertisement. Clicking or tapping the icon shows information about the advertisement, the company that provided it, and a link to opt out of interest-based advertising from that company.

18.7. What is the Digital Advertising Alliance. The Digital Advertising Alliance is an industry self-regulatory programme in the United States that provides the YourAdChoices icon and opt-out tools for interest-based advertising. The DAA provides a web choices tool and an AppChoices tool for mobile applications, as described in Section 8.

18.8. Does Eduplore use Google Ads or Meta advertising. Eduplore may use Google Ads or Meta advertising services, where those services are used as described in Section 6. If those services are used, a user can opt out through Google advertising settings or Meta advertising settings, and through the methods in Section 8. If those services are not used, the paragraphs about them in Section 6 do not apply. The current list of advertising partners is in the Contact Information section.

18.9. Will opting out affect my subscription or my access to video courses. No, opting out of interest-based advertising will not cancel a subscription, will not refund a purchase, and will not reduce access to video courses, three-dimensional laboratories, quizzes, or progress analytics. A user who opts out will continue to receive the same learning service on the same terms.

18.10. How can a parent manage advertising for a child. A parent should use the parent account to manage the advertising setting for the linked child account, should review the device settings for the child device, and should contact Eduplore support if the parent wants no advertisements to be shown to the child where that option is available. The children advertising limits in Section 12 apply to every child account.
